Numerical simulation of influence of blowdown on cyclone's separation performance

By utilizing stochastic tracking model, the moving track of particles in turbulence field was simulated, whilst the velocity and pressure distribution of cyclone separator under various blowdown rates were provided, and then the separating efficiency was computed. The simulation result matched the data from literatures quite well. The result indicates that the blowdown can increase the tangential velocity of whirling gas flow in conical section of cyclone and meanwhile the decrease of axial velocity helps to prevent the particle back-mixing from gas flow, and decreases the short cut flow at the bottom of vortex finder. For a given cyclone separator,there is a corresponding optimal blowdown rate.

Due to the current development requirement of expanded polystyrene(EPS) manufacture, a low-cost and portable polystyrene foam cutting system was developed. This system integrated the knowledge of CAD/CAM, motor control, CNC, advanced manufacture to determine its design scheme, develop host computer software, and finally program graphical user interface (GUI) optimization, optimization sequencing of graphic elements based on DXF file and cutting path planning. Additionally, software functions were tested and a real foam part was cut in the system. It has been proved that the system is easy to use and dimension tolerance is small which can satisfy the requirement of engineering application.
Research on model of complex product developing process based on knowledge based engineering

To improve efficiency of complex product development and control complexity of the interaction between every aspects in the complex product development process, a new model of complex product development process is presented based on knowledge based engineering (KBE). The model integrates the theory of KBE into the whole lifecycle development process of complex product. And knowledge reasoning technology can obtain knowledge and data of every developing phase from database and knowledge library to drive and guide complex product developing process to better reuse knowledge. Moreover, research on the key technologies of the model are condcuted, which includes the technology of developing knowledge processing and CAD/CAM/CAE/CAPP integrating technology based on KBE. Two knowledge processing methods, knowledge processing based on rule-object-frame and knowledge processing based on rule-case, are proposed, and its reasoning algorithms are researched; based on knowledge library, database, rule-base and case-base, CAD/CAM/CAE/CAPP is realized to integrate PDM,STEP neutral file,rules, cases and knowledge etc. Finally, the rapid design system for tunnel boring machine(TBM)main frame can be realized through database technique, programming language VC#. NET and CATIA software. This system effectively reduces the complexity of TBM main frame development and shortens its development cycle. And one application example of TBM main frame is given to verify the validity and reasonability of the model.

Crises of any kind often are an inevitable obstacle when developing new products, especially as they are difficult to overcome. All the more, a methodical approach is necessary to handle any crisis systematically. This article proposes a procedural model that provides guidance on how to act in case of a crisis during the design of a technical product.
Decision making method for failure mode criticality based on grey relational analysis

 Based on grey relational analysis, a decision making method for failure mode criticality was proposed. Through analyzing designers' design ideas and preferences, the criticality of each failure mode was ranked according to its grey correlation degree to that of ideal failure mode, which conquered the problems that the criticality of failure mode was difficult to compare when the risk priority numbers were equal or close, and criticality priority factors had no relative weight. Finally, the proposed method was verified by the case of process FMECA on a specified product.
Design method of maglev railway based on random engineering errors

In order to foresee the influence of random engineering error on maglev railway curve in design stage, based on viewpoint of probability and statistics, a design method of the maglev railway profile concerning the influence of random engineering errors was proposed. The correlative analytic formulae were established and the criterion to judge whether the manufacture of the design curve is successful or not, through which, design and engineering process are integrated. This enables designers to predict whether maglev railway profiles can be successfully processed in design stage, and the maglev railway can be designed by balancing its economy and reliability.
Machining dimension type recognition based on self-organizing feature map neural network

An automatic machining dimension type recognition method based on self-organizing feature map (SOFM) neural network was presented. Firstly, the extensible markup language(XML) file including data of component features was acquired from 3D CAD software, and the machining features and dimensions were extracted from the XML files. The machining features of component were treated as neurons in the input layer of SOFM network, which would be considered as input vectors of SODM after processing. By employing the self-studying and self-organizing capability of SOFM, the input vectors were trained and the trained network could implement well recognition of machining dimension type. Finally, though recognition of dimension type of some component, the validity of the proposed method for four typical machining dimension types, namely plane, inner hole, outer circle and orientation, were demonstrated.

 The dynamic equations of a rotor-bearing system with pedestal looseness and rubbing were established on the basis of the nonlinear oil film force and linear rubbing model. The random response of rotor-bearing system was systematically investigated by matrix differential theory, second order moment technique, matrix perturbation and Kronecker algebra. Moreover, research on the reliability for rubbing in rotor-bearing system was conducted by statistical fourth moment method and Edgeworth series technique. Numerical results are also presented and the reliability curve is offered.

2D deployable panel and shell structure based on paper folding model could obtain large deploying area under small folding volume, whose deploying efficiency was high. Staring from 2D paper folding model, research on the characteristics of this kind of deployable structure was carried out, and then the deploying process of this model was simulated. By employing the Moore-Penrose general inverse matrix, combining panel unit theory and its corresponding constraints handling, the deploying process of this model was analyzed and simulated. By integrating dynamic equations, velocity and acceleration can be computed as well.
Method to ascertain design sequence of components on panel of complex instrument

A quantificational method on the importance of components on instrument panel and their usage frequency was presented, which provided guidance for design sequence of components on complex instrument panel. The original data was acquired by investigation and the Delphi method and the idea of Judge Matrix was integrated as the method to process data, whose computation was simple and whose result had good differentiating degree. By apply this method in some special military vehicle panel, desirable result was achieved.

To enhance the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of fundamental ultrasonic echo signals for ultrasonic nondestructive testing (UNDT) and ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (UNDE), a new method called split spectrum processing technique based on wavelet transform multi-resolution analysis ability was presented. After the shortcomings and principle of classical split spectrum (SSP) algorithm were analyzed, ultrasonic echo signals were decomposed into sub-bands of constant Q by using wavelet transform multi-resolution analysis ability. Then a signal and noise separator was used to distinguish the target signals from the noises, and the target signals were reconstructed to realize the purpose of enhancing SNR by removing noises. The experiment results indicate that the presented technique has high de-noising performance reliability and improves the SNR enhancing ability for ultrasonic target echo signals contaminated by material noises compared with the classical SSP algorithm.
Separation method for shape grading of pearls using computer vision

A method based on computer vision for recognizing the pearls'  shape is presented to solve the problem of low productivity and low accuracy of peal sort by hand. Firstly, the preprocessed color image is segmented according to its' grey degree histogram. Then the morphological closing operation is adopted to eliminate the noise points in the image. An 8-directional boundary-tracing algorithm is applied to obtain the sequences of the boundary to abstract the Fourier Descriptor of peal's boundary curve. And then the Euclidean distance between the peals under checking and the ones in the standard template library, which is utilized to distinguish the pearls' shape. Finally the experimental result demonstrates the validity and practicability of this method.
Non-probabilistic reliability model convex set method for stability analysis of compressive bar

Due to the limitation that probabilistic reliability model has high requirement on original data, convex set model is adopted to describe the uncertain parameters of reliability analysis on compressive bar stability. Then the impact of these uncertain parameters on compressive bar stability response based on convex set model is discussed by one order Taylor series expansion, and the non-probabilistic reliability index of compressive bar stability is presented. This analytic method avoids seeking probability density function, with a lower requirement on original data and simpler to compute.Finally, through computation of engineering case study, this approach is demonstrated to be simple and practical.
Research on terminal-guidance ballistic model under windy condition

The existence of wind changes the direction and value of relative velocity between terminal-guidance and air, which leads to the change of direction and value of air drag and air drag acceleration as well as the related forces and moments. In order to analyze characteristics of influence of the existence of wind on the motion features of terminal-guidance, ballistic model must be established. Based on the standard ballistic model, mainly considering wx (range wind) and wz(beam wind), relative ballistic coordinate, relative velocity, relative angle of attack, relative angle of sideslip are introduced, and the projection of forces and moments are analyzed. Finally, the terminal-guidance ballistic model under windy condition is established. Through simulation, the rule of wind's influence on terminal-guidance is obtained, which establishes the foundation for further research on its ballistic characteristics.

A new precise displacement platform without guide apparatus was developed, which perfected the capability of the ones used in the correlative fields of mechanics nowadays, and additionally improved their displacement straightness and position accuracy, and finally lowered their cost. The proposed platform was developed based on the moving theories of parallelogram and proportional lever. Besides the advantages mentioned above, it was convenient to install and maintain with small volume and could be used under weightless condition. Therefore it could be applied to the aviation industry and the other precise displacement systems.

Open-close mould mechanism is the key part of glassware pressing machine. The present pressing machine adopts whole mould and two-part open mould and can only form glassware with simple shape and monotone pattern. Two new types of open-close mould, namely hinged type and lotiform type, are designed. Their principle and working process are presented in details and the collision checking and dynamics simulation for the mechanism are performed by virtual prototype. The physical prototype is under trial manufacture. The new types of open-close mould mechanism can form glassware with complex shape and greatly increase the range of products that can be manufactured.

 In order to forecast the development direction of dispensing system to adapt the need of nonce packaging, the technology evolution pattern of TRIZ and subsystem of technology system was combined, and a table of subsystem and technological evolution pattern was built. Based on the character of dispenser subsystem structure, the evolution rule of the subsystems of dispensing system was analyzed along evolutional routes of different evolution patterns by the place in the table. The place on the evolution routes for dispenser subsystem was determined, and the possible development direction of dispensing system was obtained by the present place.
