Abstract In order to foresee the influence of random engineering error on maglev railway curve in design stage, based on viewpoint of probability and statistics, a design method of the maglev railway profile concerning the influence of random engineering errors was proposed. The correlative analytic formulae were established and the criterion to judge whether the manufacture of the design curve is successful or not, through which, design and engineering process are integrated. This enables designers to predict whether maglev railway profiles can be successfully processed in design stage, and the maglev railway can be designed by balancing its economy and reliability.
