Abstract Based on grey relational analysis, a decision making method for failure mode criticality was proposed. Through analyzing designers' design ideas and preferences, the criticality of each failure mode was ranked according to its grey correlation degree to that of ideal failure mode, which conquered the problems that the criticality of failure mode was difficult to compare when the risk priority numbers were equal or close, and criticality priority factors had no relative weight. Finally, the proposed method was verified by the case of process FMECA on a specified product.
