Chinese Journal of Engineering Design, 2011, 18(1): 12-16.
Product design process is one of the important parts in product lifecycle. The quality of final product and manufacturing cost are usually decided by result of product design process. The essence of product design process is solution of product design problem. It is also a decision making process, the subject on the uncertain condition, in order to fulfil the requirement of customer or subjects. The function is the key factor and content which decides this process. The function is core content. Around it, firstly, the current research on function in product design process was analyzed. The advantages & disadvantages of those pasted research were listed. Then, based on the concept of ontology, and the common between function and ontology, the function definition was proposed oriented to product design process. The relationship among function, requirement and requirement function was presented. Furthermore, comparing with traditional view, a new division of product design process was proposed, in which, the product design process was divided into two phases: the qualitative conceptual design phase and the quantitative detail design phase on the basis of functions mainline in product design product. At last, the outline of this paper was summarized, and the future work of this paper was pointed out.

Considering the repeated refinement situation of design requirements in the early product design, the co-evolution method between design requirement and solution solving was proposed. By using a formal symbolic expression, the method of acquiring design requirements was analyzed. Also the elements and their interrelations involved in the product design process were described rationally. After establishing the corresponding solving model, the logic process of the co-evolution was elaborated, and the layer by layer co-evolution framework based on the proposed method was set up. Finally, taking a papersmoothing machine as a design case study, the co-evolution between design requirement and solution solving was described in detail and the method's practicability was verified.

Chinese Journal of Engineering Design, 2011, 18(1): 28-33.
Since the physical and chemical characteristics of biogas, some problems such as slow combustion speed, uncompleted burned fuel and high exhaust temperature will occur in its applications in engine. The biogas engine model library was built with the objectoriented language Modelica, the performance of a fourstroke sparkignition gas engine operating with natural gas/liquefied petroleum gasbiogas blends were investigated. Natural gas (33%, 67% and 100%) and liquefied petroleum gas (5%, 10% and 15%) were added to the biogas and were simulated as the fuel of SI engine. The effects of natural gas/liquefied petroleum gasbiogas blends on the performance of sparkignition engine used for electricity production were numerical investigated, the results were validated through the experiments on a gasoline modified gas engine. The results suggest that: There is an improvement in brake thermal efficiency and brake powers with the addition of natural gas/liquefied petroleum gas in biogas. The feature of reusable and objectoriented of Modelica will enhance the modeling and simulation of biogas engine performance greatly not only in accuracy but simulation efficiency, this would be efficient for the design and the optimum work of the biogas fuelled engine.

Finite element analysis of contact between ZA worm and worm gearbased on precise tooth surface model

Chinese Journal of Engineering Design, 2011, 18(1): 38-42.
To make research on contact stress between worm and worm gear under different circumstances, and the relationship between the torsion angle of the worm and the driving torque, solid models with precise tooth surface of a ZA worm and worm gear were established based on tooth surface equations. Using these models, finite element analysis of contact was performed with ANSYS at different meshing locations under the same load and at the same meshing location under different loads, and the contact stress distribution on different meshing teeth and the load distribution among them were studied in a meshing cycle. The analysis results show that the contact stress calculated by the theoretical formula is quite smaller than the actual maximum, and that a power function is discovered between the driving torque and the torsion angle of the worm caused by elastic deformation of contact teeth, which can be used in precise angle control of the worm gear.

Theoretical analysis on the recuperation of heating & air conditioning
in an ultratall building
LI Jian-Feng, LV Jun-Fu , ZHANG Hai
Chinese Journal of Engineering Design, 2011, 18(1): 43-47.
In order to reduce energy consumption in an ultratall building in the winter and summer seasons, an energy recovery system consisting of an air raise, erected in the center of the building with its both ends open to the ambient, and a turbine installed within the air raise were proposed. A physical model was also developed to predict the performance of the system. Theoretical calculation showed that when the height of building was 1 000 m in winter, while the heat pump absorbed heat from the air raise to the building, the turbine recovered the energy of the downwards moving air in the air raise, and the maximum energy output could be up to 22% of the energy consumed by the heat pump. In summer, while the air conditioning system released heat to the air raise from the building, the turbine recovered the energy of the upwards moving air in the air raise and the maximum energy output can be more than 50% of energy consumed by the air conditioning system. The results of calculation show that using this system to reduce energy consumption in ultratall building is feasibility.

Chinese Journal of Engineering Design, 2011, 18(1): 48-52.
In hoping to overcome the shortcomings of the unintuitive and inefficient defects in traditional two dimension approach, this paper proposed a three dimension design method for open pit mine. Firstly, it created a deposit geological model with three-dimensional mine software, assigned the grade by using geo-statistical method, and then obtained geological grade model. On this basis, using 3D finite element method, the study on optimizing the slope angle of mining limit and combining parameters of slope bench was performed. And in the virtue of limit definition and 3D schedule procedure, the integral optimization of the whole system in the aspects of deposit schedule, production scope, mining limit and limit grade was achieved. Finally, according to the optimization result, the development system was arranged properly, and three dimensions design of the full flow was realized. Through applying the approach in one mining design, the result shows that three-dimensional visualization method has the advantages of high efficiency, precise calculation, and strong application value.

JIANG Zhi-Jun, WU Jiang, CHEN Liang
Chinese Journal of Engineering Design, 2011, 18(1): 53-57.
In order to demonstrate the feasibility of a repair method of
bearing seat on a certain airplane starter and the rationality of the parameters adopted
in repairbushing interference fit structural, the reliability of repair-bushing
interference fit has been studied. With the factors, which will induce repair-bushing
looseness or bearing seat flaw, set as random variables, the reliability model has been
established. The finite element calculation of repairbushing interference fit has been
accomplished base on ANSYS, and the finite element calculation results have been examined
by experiment. According to the reliability model of repairbushing interference fit and
the results of finite element calculation, the reliability of repair-bushing interference
fit was calculated. The calculation results and the practical applications show that the
design of repair-bushing interference fit structural parameters is reasonable, and the
repair method which is feasible and effective has a high reliability.

Chinese Journal of Engineering Design, 2011, 18(1): 71-76.
Novel balanced composite right/left handed transmission line
(CRLH TL) with electrically small dimension of 0.074λg based on Minkowski fractal
shaped geometry of complementary split ring resonator (CSRRs) was proposed and studied.
Effects of the ring number of CSRRs, iteration order, horizontal and vertical iteration
factor to transmission characteristics of unbalanced CRLH TL were investigated through
academic calculation, constitutive parameters extraction approach, and EM as well as
electrical simulation. Thus working mechanism of fractal and multi-loop structure in
terms of miniaturization can be derived. For verification, novel balanced CRLH TL has been
fabricated and measured. Results obtained from simulation, circuit model and measurement
show good agreement which indicates: the -10 dB return loss bandwidth has been
significantly broadened (relative bandwidth of 113.7%) while also presents a lower
operating frequency. Good performance of the proposed structure exhibits promising
foreground in ultra wide band and miniaturization application.
