Abstract Selection of response surface method with highly accurate and efficient approximation is greatly important in its application. The approximation function form, parameter estimate method and its basic features are described first; and then four representative functions are introduced and approximation of the abovementioned four functions is carried out through response surface modeling method; finally comparative analysis of this modeling method is conducted from the aspect of approximation accuracy and efficiency. The results indicate that response surface method based on radial basis function is the most suitable for practical problems.
