According to the load behavior of the porting mechanism in axial piston pump, frictional torque’s composition and theoretical calculation were presented under solid lubrication, boundary lubrication and whole film lubrication between port plate and cylinder block. The frictional torque of the port pair was tested under different oil film heights and rotation speeds to study the effects of working condition parameters on frictional torque. The relationship between the change process of frictional torque and the wear pattern of port pair in one rotor period was discussed. The approximate percent of the whole pump mechanical power loss due to the port pair’s frictional torque was reached. The results show that load is the fundamental factor resulting in variation of the frictional torque, and that the uneven wear in the region connecting sucking slot and delivering slot is a normal appearance in port pairs. The oil film height significantly affects the frictional torque, but it does not work as monotonic inverse proportion relationship. A film height of 5 μm causes about 10% frictional power loss.
