Abstract The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is utilized to coupling effect of electromagnetic pulse and computer box. Physical model of computer box is established and through analyzing the changing curves of change of electromagnetic field with time and change of coupling coefficient with frequency, thecoupling regulation of electromagnetic on computer box is obtained. It is as follows: electromagnetic pulse has a great effect on components of computer box through apertures and slots, the coupling energy in the box increases first and then decreases. The existence of components decreases the shielding effectiveness and resonant frequency. The results can be employed to settle electromagnetic compatible design and protection of interference of computer box.
