Abstract To study the mechanical properties of hydraulic rods under bad conditions, the loads of whole drum shearer were analyzed and the loads of drum and sliding shoes were calculated under the condition of oblique cutting. The variation of each hydraulic rods tensile force with different coal seam dip angles and pitching angles was researched. The stress distribution of hydraulic rod with most serious bearing load was analyzed by using Workbench. Based on the fatigue cumulative damage theory, the fatigue life of hydraulic rod was predicted. The research results reflected the mechanical properties of hydraulic rods in the practical work accurately. It provides theoretical basis for design, calculation and practical production development of shearer, and also has reference value for further research of the same type components.
