An adaptive posture following and keeping fixture and experiments

In order to keep and fasten reliably the adjusted posture of large components such as fuselage in aircraft digital assembly, a new adaptive posture following and keeping fixture of large components, based on the principle of aerostatic bearing and universal ball joint, was proposed, and a new flexible fixture called posture following and keeping fixture was developed. The influences of pressure fluctuation and component abrasion on axial clamping force, and the relationship between the reliability level of the mandrel adaptively introducing into the thin-wall barrel and the structure and dimension of the mandrel free end were studied. The theoretic analysis and experiments results show that this method is feasible and reliable for posture following and keeping in relation to different kind of conditions and parameters, and the mandrel can adaptively introduce into the thin-wall barrel on condition that the angle deviation of the mandrel is small.
