Simulation of mixture formation in direct injection LPG engine

Abstract  

A method to form homogeneous mixture using a combination of liquid phase liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) low pressure direct injection, pent-roof type of combustion chamber, flat-topped piston and center-located injector layout was presented. The mixture formation processes in cylinder were investigated using the CFD code in order to validate the method. The effect of different injection times and engine loads on the mixture formation processes was analyzed. Simulation results showed that the intake tumble at high load conditions and the inclined intake swirl at part load conditions broke into small-scale vortex turbulence near the end of the compression stroke, which enhanced the homogeneous mixture formation. If the liquid phase LPG is injected at 60-80°CA ATDC in intake stroke even at different loads, the more homogeneous mixture can be formed near the end of the compression stroke.

液化石油气直喷发动机混合气形成的解析

利用LPG易蒸发汽化的燃料特性,提出一种使用喷嘴中心布置的屋脊型燃烧室和平顶活塞的LPG直喷发动机均质混合气形成方法.为了验证该方法的可行性,使用CFD工具研究采用该方法时缸内混合气的形成过程,分析燃料喷射起始时刻和负荷对混合气形成过程的影响.结果表明:大负荷时形成的进气滚流和小负荷形成的进气斜涡流在压缩过程末期破碎成小尺度湍流,加速了缸内均质混合气的形成;即使负荷不同,采用进气过程前期(60~80°CA ATDC)喷射,均可在压缩过程接近终了时形成较均匀的可燃混合气.
