Abstract:

This work designed and built a synchronous recording and analyzing system for animals neuronal activity and motor behavior, which composed of experimental apparatus for animals behavior, synchronous recording subsystem, processing and analyzing subsystem. When the animals are performing specific task, the synchronous recorder captures both neuronal signals and behavior images, then the analyzing and processing subsystem extracts the feature values of the neuronal signals. This system provides an experimental platform for researching the correlation between neuronal activities and behaviors. The neuronal population activities were recorded and analyzed when a rat was performing “extend-flex” task. The observation showed that the distributed activity of the primary motor cortex is strongly related with the patterns of forelimb activities. By decoding the neuronal population activity from the primary motor cortex, the motion information of forelimb can be acquired and the action modes can be correctly distinguished and estimated.
