The analysis presented in this paper and the conclusions drawn show how design science and product data technology may achieve common goals by co operation.These goals include to reach a thorough understanding of how product development may be pursued optimally in industry. Potentials of mutual enrichment of the respective work and their possible impact on product development are outlined.
