Abstract To research the axial-compressed load capacity of inflatable boom with rigidized laminated aluminum,the initial stress on the laminate with plastic deformation was taken account of,and the residual strain was gained by the tensile experiment of laminate. Using ANSYS program to calculate the axial load capacity of 1.2 meters long boom according to the residual strain, the mechanical properties unrigidized and rigidized were compared, which showed that the load capacity of rigidized one increased by 24%, then a 1.2 meters long boom model was developed, and experiments for axial load capacity under the pressure load 0 and 0.02 MPa were carried out, proving that the analysis method is true.
