Abstract Within the public founded ProMeKreis project，the author developed methods for recycling friendly design，which are available as a guideline(“Leitfaden fur die recyclinggerechte Produktentwicklung”)．This guideline is meant as a comprehensible，compact tool for the development of products，allowing for easy refurbishing，upgrading and／or utilisation．Focus on systematical investigation and optim isation of utilisation processes with respect to the processed goods results in a significant improvement of the design process with respect to utilisation(concept of “utilisation classes”)．
