Abstract In order to break through traditional design methods of continuous conveyors (such as scraper conveyors and slat conveyors),for example,type selection in fl table and experience analogy,according to the limiting balance principle of granular material,taking granular material as working object,conveying mechanism and influence factors including material attribute,the friction between material and conveyor,conveying height and scraper interval were analysed.Based on an instance of optimal design,it was acquired that the transport capability was restricted not only by the drive power,but also by the limiting height of normal transport on fl certain condition.The result of optimizing parameters indicates that the power is reduced by one-sixth approximately under the same condition,and provides machines of this kind with a theoretical base to realize the transformation from traditiona1 design to modern design.
