Abstract This paper introduces the design of dotmatrix jet printing machine for steel pipe，which is a heart part in the finishing line equipment，including length checking，weighing and punch marking machine．The subsystem such as the choice of printing header，control system design，servomotor control and computer software design are presented．The device runs stably and reliably on the line．
