Abstract The acoustic behaviour of technical products is predominantly defined in the design stage, although designers mostly have no education as acousticians. In this contribution a computer aided method is described how to analyse and influence the acoustic characteristics of machine structures. This method bases on the concept of the“sound flowchart”of structures, contents design rules after ISO/TR 11 688 and supports the designer in the early stages of the design process.
