Abstract In order to improve the driving properties of the large gap magnetic drive system, the oriented silicon steel sheets was used to be the electromagnet core instead of the nonoriented one. Then the driving torques generated by the two kinds of the electromagnet cores was analyzed by ANSYS, and the driving properties of the two kinds of electromagnet cores were compared through experiment. The experimental results show that the drive torque generated by the electromagnet core of the oriented silicon steel sheet is higher than that of the nonoriented one in the case of the same current, to provide a basis of the optimization on the electromagnetic structure and size.
