Abstract Automatic assembly problem is very important for design and analysis of travel mechanism, nonroadwheel tracked vehicle travel mechanism is taken as the research object, the key issues for posture positioning and constraints adding in automatic assembly are mainly analyzed. A automatic assembly method of tracked vehicle travel mechanism based on method using auxiliary sketches and reference surface for posture positioning and constraints adding was proposed, and a travel mechanism automated assembly systems was developed, which can greatly improve the efficiency of the parametric prototype modeling and make the designers free from the tedious work of routine modeling and assembly.
