By applying the technique of immune-fluorescence. we have made an animal model of oti tis media with effusion induced by immune response in guinea pigs. The findings are as fol-lows:The guinea pigs showed early imbalance and spontaneous nystagmus, indicating that the antigen from middle ear could spread into the inner ear and result in immune-complex in-duced reaction to disturb the labyrinth function. The immune-fluorescence distributed in the subepithelial layer of the middle ear and vestibular, scattered in stria vascularis and the basi-lar membrane around the modiolus of cochlear. It is speculated that the immune response af-fects the oxygenic supply of Cortic organ and energy metablism in the inner ear. The intensity of fluorescence in the apex turn of cochlear was lower than that in the base turn. So it is probable that otitis media with effusion of immune response might damage the base turn car ly.
