Abstract:The hydrolysis-polymerization process of Al ( III ) , species distribution of polyaluminum chloride and
its flocculating ability were studied when polyethylene oxide ( PEO ) was introduced. Experimental
results show that the introduction of PEO advances th e hydrolysis-polymerization of Al(III) during the alkali addition and stabilizes PAC solution. It is more hard to be acid-depolymerized and contains more species that cannot be depolymerized and complexed by Al-Ferron method. The results also show that the
introduction of PEO markedly improves the flocculating ability of PAC and increases the settling speed offlocs. As to the different ways of introduction, the before-addition is better than the after-addition.
