A New Algorithm of Extracing Characters and Combining Strings in Engineering Drawings

Abstract：It is a very difficult problem to solve in the field of CAD/ CAM to conver t scanned eng ineering drawings into graphics.There are a lot of dimension characters in draw ings, and the method to process them is different from that of other lines .Extracting and recognizing these characters is the key component of drawing co nversio n system .In this paper , the disadv antages of some existing methods of extracting characters are analy sed .A new algorithm of ex tracting characters and combining strings are presented in detail.A experimental sample is g iven, and it proves that the presented alg orithm can ex tract string s speedily and efficiently .
