Authorship

Authorship

All authors listed in a manuscript submitted to Journal of Zhejiang University (Medical Sciences) must have contributed in a meaningful and identifiable way to the design, performance, analysis, and reporting of the work and to agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work. The corresponding author assumes responsibility for obtaining permission from all co-authors for the submission of any/all version(s) of the manuscript and for any changes in authorship.

As stated in the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Recommendations, authorship should be based on the following 4 criteria:

  • Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
  • Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
  • Final approval of the version to be published; AND
  • Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All those designated as authors should meet all four criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors. Those who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged. If authors request removal or addition of an author after manuscript submission or publication, an explanation and signed statement of agreement for the requested change from all listed authors and from the author to be removed or added are required. When submitting a manuscript authored by a group, the corresponding author should specify the group name if one exists, and clearly identify the group members who can take credit and responsibility for the work as authors.
